Details that protect the warranty
- 6 in. minimum clearance from finished grade
- 1–2 in. clearance above roof lines and decks with flashing
- Butt joints over studs with joint flashing behind
- Correct fastener type and embedment for the substrate
- No caulk at butt joints where flashing is required
Straight talk
What to expect
Fiber cement is heavier, harder on blades, and far less forgiving than vinyl — but it holds paint for 15 years, does not melt near a grill, and reads as real wood from the curb. It is the right call on homes where the trim details matter.
